Residents in sparsely populated areas of the county will soon have the opportunity to voice their opinion on the need for broadband Internet access in their homes. Curt Simpson of KW Communications met with County Judge/Executive Stan Humphries to gauge the need for high-speed connectivity in rural areas.

Humphries said, “We’re glad KW called to express this much interest in operating in Trigg County. Whether they do it or don’t do it will be a business decision they have to make.”

“The purpose for me coming here is to continue the dialogue we have with the Judge/Executive,” said Simpson. “We’re gauging the level of interest in Trigg County and building a business case to bring service to residents.”

Simpson said that site and technical surveys within the area had revealed promise, but they told him little about the demand for the service.

The wireless Internet service provided by KW would hopefully open with speeds of a half megabyte-per-second, and could increase to five megabytes-per-second, if needed by a customer.

“It’s too early to announce prices,” said Simpson. “We can build a business model around factors we collect about the needs in the county. We’ve got to be as competitive as anyone else so we won’t be high.”
