The JULS is being conducted by EDAW, Inc., an international consulting firm with experience in regional and base planning. The study is designed to develop a plan which avoids land use conflicts with Fort Campbell’s mission, balances military activities with the goals of local development and creates nighttime lighting standards compatible with the base’s Night Vision Device (NVD) training. The series of public meetings are being held at Fort Campbell, Tennessee’s Stewart and Montgomery counties and Trigg and Christian County. The kickoff meeting was held on July 23 at the Cadiz Senior Center.
Liz Drake, EDAW’s senior associate planner, said that the upcoming meeting would differ from the first in that she would be discussing a few actual recommendations of the study, rather than simply seeking input. She said that outdoor lighting is one of the biggest issues, particularly near the Sabre Heliport on the southeastern side of the base ofn the Highway 79 corridor.
