Last November, all six city council members won reelection, but Regenia Wilkerson Jasper was 29 votes away from unseating Council member Bob Noel. Noel kept his seat with 384 votes to Jasper’s 355. After McNichols was unseated by a judge’s ruling that de-annexed her Wyandot Village home, she began renting an apartment on Main Street and the council voted 5-2 to appoint McNichols to her vacated seat. But because Kentucky election laws require that the special appointed seat be on the ballot, McNichols is facing her second campaign in two years. Meanwhile, Jasper said she running again because “it’s time for a change.”
“Change has to occur in order for a community to have progress,” Jasper said. “And it should be positive change. This city needs more industry so we can have more jobs. We also need more promotion of tourism and the (council) needs to be involving the citizens more in its decisions.”
She added, “Private citizens might bring better ideas to the table to make this a better place to live.”
