Waste Management, which had a contract for trash collection in the city limits, has sold its business in Cadiz and other nearby municipalities to Freedom Waste Services.

City Clerk Lisa Rogers said that Mayor Lyn Bailey signed the form of consent on Oct. 22 and that the Freedom Waste trucks were supposed to drive down city streets for the first time on Nov. 19. Rogers said that payment rates would not change for customers in the city or for the city itself. She said, though, that Freedom Waste has smaller trucks than Waste Management and that this will be better for city streets. She said that Waste Management trucks were very heavy and cause more damage to the streets than the new trucks will. Rogers wasn’t sure of the reasons for the sale.
