Temperatures in the 40s, drizzle and a biting north wind did not slow progress on the New Trigg County State Justice Center or keep residents and dignitaries from a groundbreaking ceremony for the project.

Judge/Executive Stan Humphries welcomed representatives of the Administrative Office of the Courts, District Judge Jamus Redd III, Circuit Judge C.A. “Woody” Woodall III, State Senator Ken Winters (R-Dist. 1), Cadiz Mayor Lyn Bailey and others to the construction site after closing Main Street for the event.

“This is a monumental day in the life of the people of Trigg County with the groundbreaking of this long awaited and greatly anticipated building,” Humphries said in his introduction.

A press release from the Administrative Office of the Courts said that the Kentucky General Assembly approved the Trigg County project in 2005 and authorized its funding in 2006. The new judicial center has been budgeted at $12.28 million for 39,591 square feet and is expected to be completed in December 2008. Construction on the project continued while the assembled dignitaries conducted the ceremonial groundbreaking with work on the structure’s foundation.

Humphries said, “Ten million dollars is not often sent to Trigg County, so we are thankful for that as well.”

As a representative of State Representative John Tilley (D- Dist. 8) Emily Fitzsimmons presented Humphries with an American flag that once flew over the State Capitol for use once the new facility stands completed.

Woodall, who is a member of the Justice Center Project Development Board responsible for the planning of the building said, “I’m proud to be a part of this project as your Circuit Court Judge. I thank (Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph E. Lambert) for providing a modern and safe facility for the people to seek justice in the 21st Century.”
