Trigg County Hospital Technician Angie White said that the new Philips Brilliance CT Scanner can scan in 16 slices while the unit it replaced could only manage a single slice per scan. White said that patients increase the greater speed while physicians may study 3D images of the body.
Radiographic Technician Angie White said that the new Philips Brilliance CT Scanner scanned at a rate of 16 slices. “Our old scanner made one slice at a time, so this is a lot quicker.”
The new scanner, valued at $500,000 has been leased by the hospital for 44 months at a rate of $10,855 per month for the machine, and $7,817 per month for a service plan. The hospital approved the rental agreement in May of this year.
“Patients have commented that the new machine is a lot quicker, and they like that,” said White. Other features preferred by technicians include a control panel on both sides of the patient, and a fast warm up time.
“The tube will warm up by the time a patient in the emergency room is ready,” said White. “Some days we may have as many as six or seven scans per day.”
Hospital CEO Lisa Coleman said that the hospital has added a second X-ray machine in a separate room from the first. “This is a way to give trauma patients what they need. We may have scheduled X-rays and a second machine allows us to keep the flow going and to make sure it’s always available for trauma patients.”
