Cadiz Police Chief Hollis Alexander said, “We had some street closings, but no accidents that I know of in the city.” He advised motorists, “I would certainly turn around and go the other way if I found water over the road. Do not cross it unless someone says it’s safe, and I am not sure if I would trust it then. It’s best to find a new route to the destination.”
Kentucky State Department of Highways Spokesman Keith Todd reported water over Highways 164 and 807 on December 13, and the closure of Highway 1507 on December 15 due to high water over the lane. His media advisory cautioned motorists, saying, “Motorists should be alert for debris and standing or running water on the roadway. Motorists should avoid driving through floodwaters. As little as a foot of running water can float a vehicle off the roadway or knock a motorists off their feet.”
As of Monday, at 10:27 a.m., Todd reported that Highway 1507 remained closed due to flooding from between mile marker one and two.
Todd said that the Highway Department took many preventative measures to protect from the steady rain and falling temperatures including the pretreatment of roads with brine.
