“Dive Cerulean is done because of a lack of business and the high insurance costs,” said Westerfield. “There’s too much competition in the area. Within 200 miles, there are five other quarries. I’ll still teach lessons, if anyone is interested, but there is no use renewing the insurance on the facility for one or two students per year.”
Planning to open in the spring this year, Westerfield said that the new stop would cater to motorcyclists. “Right now, the place is a jigsaw puzzle. We’ve got some stuff in place, and are planning to organize and move some stuff out. We’re going to paint it in black and orange Harley Davidson colors and have a designated parking area. When it’s done, it will be nice, but now is the wrong time of year for a lot of work.”
