Good thing abound kind readers, the “stop smoking jitters” are under control and my sense of humor is slowly coming back after a short absence. I apologize for my harsh reaction to the grand political race last week. I have proven once again the old adage “politics and quitting smoking don’t mix”. Okay, maybe it’s not an old adage but it should be. Yep, the old nervous system is getting back to normal (normal for me at least!) and I’m back to seeing and enjoying the silly things in life. Big difference when you substitute “silly” for “stupid.” And I think we can all agree politics and politicians can sure be “silly”.

I have come to see life in different stages now. When we’re young, it’s all about what we’re doing and we’re going to do. After some midlife years pass it’s what we did and what we can’t do. What I can still do and do well is watch ballgames. And this week I jumped on the luxurious team bus with Coach Fred Wilson Jr. at the wheel and went to another world to watch the Wildcats play the Fort Campbell Falcons on post. It was made a great trip when Coach Jim Wallace mentioned he had read somewhere a list of the greatest regional high school basketball games and players. Trigg head coach Mike Wright sat up like my dog ‘Pookie” when asked if he wants a treat. Turns out Wright and Wallace are walking encyclopedias about all things “round ball”. I can’t name 10 people I saw play last week much less 20 years ago and then rank them according to 3 point shooting when there really wasn’t a 3 point line. And give good reasons why the author was wrong in some of his/her player placement on said list. They remembered players who now bring their grandkids to the games and how many points they scored off the bench in any given game 25 years ago. I sure felt “silly”, I was hoping I could remember where I parked my truck.

We arrived after some severe and unplanned reconnaissance of the area just in time to watch the Lady Wildcats do battle. The girls had it all working, hitting six three pointers while doing a good job on defense. They brought home the win 54-36. Elysia Brown led the team with 12 points, Trinity Wortham 11 (3 three pointers), Brooke Kearney 9 (all 3 pointers), and Janada Acree with 8.
