Principal James Mangels said that the position was for an eighth-grade language arts and reading teacher and that Kay Wyatt had retired from the job at the end of last year. Since August, Mildred Ezell had been the permanent substitute, and Mangels said she did a great job.
The only member of the middle school’s SBDM council was teacher representative Chrisi Ethridge, but Mangels said the council’s bylaws only required one member for consultation before hiring. After a short executive session, Mangels announced that they had hired Sarah Slaughter-Creason. This will be her first fulltime teaching job. She did her student teaching at Warren East High School in Bowling Green, Mangels said. On the day of the hiring, Jan. 29, Mangels said there were 55 days left before April’s state accountability tests, so she would be working very hard in the months ahead.
