“I looked at three smaller schools and one Division I school,” said Koenig. “They have a good academic reputation and their athletic program is on the rise. They plan to start building an $83 million stadium complex and just signed a five-year sponsorship contract with Under Armor.”
Koenig’s high school coach Shannon Burcham praised his protégé’s development. “For three of his four years here, I’ve worked with Ben. First he is a good person and a good student that did what it took academically to play. He did what it took on the field to get to the next level. I congratulate him.”
Burcham said that Koenig possesses an uncommon work ethic as a player. “At our first summer camp, he was competing rather than standing back and watching. I think he will be successful.”
