The performing arts branch of the Janice Mason Art Museum, otherwise known as SKIT (Southern Kentucky Independent Theater), is urging Trigg County residents to visit a Web site to raise money for the high school’s Little Theater.

The group has requested $15,000 from myhometownhelper.com, a Web site created by Hamburger Helper. Various communities across the country have created home pages on the site in order to apply for grants for projects as diverse as playground equipment, little league uniforms and firefighter training.

SKIT’s intention is to upgrade the Little Theater’s outdated lights and sound equipment. The Trigg County Board of Education has committed to budgeting $20,000, but it will take at least $10,000 more to purchase and install adequate equipment, said Paul Fourshee, a member of SKIT. He said that he felt that their request was as legitimate as any other requests he had seen on the Hometown Helper site.

Fourshee first mentioned the possibility of applying for money on the site back in September at a booster meeting. The group’s home page, www.myhometownhelper.com/ViewProject.aspx?id=35509, first popped up last week. He said those who visit the site would need to add a comment about why they feel Cadiz is deserving of this money. He said there was no need to spend a lot of time thinking about what to write, but that it always helps to explain who you are, whether it is a parent or business owner. He said there have also been a few people who tried to post a comment but were unsuccessful because they didn’t agree to the terms and conditions on the site. To post a comment, you have to scroll all the way down, click on the check box, type your comment and then click on “Add Your Comment.”
