Though Kentucky’s winter weather may have kept a few cars from attending the new Cadiz Cruzers Car Club meeting, this Chevrolet Corvette is a sample of some of the great rides that will appear in club events.

Cars became a theme over last weekend as Ryan Newman took the checkered flag at the Daytona 500 Sunday, and local resident Jesse Thomas convened the first ever meeting of the Cadiz Cruzers Car Club at the Trigg County Recreation Complex on Saturday.

Thomas invited owners of antiques, hot rods, modified imports, sport cars, customs and any other exotic automobile to participate and show their vehicles at a series of Cruze-ins over the summer at the parking lot of Cadiz Baptist Church. He said that the Cruze-ins would be open to anyone with a car he or she wished to bring to the events free of charge.

Members of the club pay $25 for annual dues, and get a t-shirt signifying their affiliation with the group. Thomas added that future benefits include license plate holders to denote membership.

“We had a really good meeting on Saturday,” said Thomas. “We had about 35 people there, and that’s really good for a first time. I expect that when the club is up and running, we’ll have about 25 members, but would be happy with more. We can do this with only about five or six people, but welcome everyone. It was a good meeting. Everyone has a positive attitude and are looking forward to our events.”
