The Trigg County Sheriff’s Department lost one deputy in the New Year and promoted from within to fill the manpower shortfall, keeping five full-time officers on the streets of the county.

Sheriff Randy Clark confirmed that Deputy Thomas Harris tendered his resignation effective January 26. To replace Harris, he promoted Reserve Deputy Matt Riddle to the fulltime position.

Clark said, “Riddle’s transfer was effective March 1. He is already certified and has 99 percent of the equipment needed.”

A former officer of the Cadiz Police Department, Riddle operated a garage and towing service while maintaining his accreditation as a reserve Trigg County deputy. He will not need to attend the Kentucky Law Enforcement Academy.

Another recently hired deputy on Clark’s staff, Jimmy Godair is scheduled to begin his academy training on April 7, according to Clark.
