The second Trigg County Day of Service will begin at the high school gym at 10 o’clock Saturday morning and will last until 3 p.m., organizer Alex Jenkins said last week.

Jenkins started the project last year after she got on the Kentucky Child Now Youth Council for the first time. Members of that statewide organization had organized community service events in their hometowns to commemorate the National and Global Day of Service. Admission to the event will be one dollar and is open to preschool through eighth grade, Jenkins said.

Jenkins said that from the start of the event until noon, kids would be able to play games in the gym. She said that Stephanie Perry of Vinson Farms would be giving a talk about agriculture and that senior Matt Ledford would be talking about fire safety. She said that Clara Beth Hyde’s health students would also have a booth at the event with health information. Major Duncan Wiggins of the Cadiz Police Department will have a police safety and D.A.R.E. booth, and Randy Wade will have a disaster preparedness booth, she said.

Between noon and one o’clock, a free lunch will be served. This will be followed by “Trigg Idol,” a parody of “American Idol,” that Jenkins said was quite popular last year. There will be a $2 charge to participate. Several teachers and volunteers will play judges, including Erin Eagleson, who will reprise his role as the Simon Cowell stand-in, Simon Towel. There will be a small cash prize.
