Lake Barkley Marina Employee Zach Thompson said that fuel from that facility sold for $4.35 on June 22. “That’s the highest we’ve had here.”
Though mostly fueling fishing boats and personal watercraft, the Lake Barkley Marina services all boats on the lakes. Thompson said that the most gas he has pumped during his tenure at the marina was $2,000 into a houseboat.
“There are probably a few less boaters coming out,” said Thompson. “They may not travel as far to get here. I think Evansville is about as far as I have seen this summer.”
Scott Jolly stopped at the marina Sunday afternoon to fill the tank of his personal watercraft. “We’re still here about every week. We come out when it suits us. Today we rode up the Little River and are getting ready to head out on the boat.” He said that his watercraft used gasoline more economically than some other boats.
His wife Ellen Jolly added, “People who have made the investment of a boat will probably use it.
