The most common places are probably Hopkinsville, for the closest theater, and Clarksville, for a somewhat-close everything else. However, it can get pretty expensive making all the trips back and forth all the time, as far as gas goes. This is most likely why some kids are just opting to mostly stay home and try to make the best of it.
Take 18-year old Alex Jenkins, for example. Since graduation, she has spent most of her summer at home. Jenkins said that she’s spent a lot of time at home because most of her friends are busy getting ready for school in the fall and gas is too high to drive to Clarksville every weekend anyway. In the meantime, Jenkins is catching up on all the movies that she missed this year.
“I’ve bought 24 DVDs since graduation,” said Jenkins.
However, there are some kids that are just not content with staying home, such as 18-year old Dominique Self.
“I have to go do something because I just get so bored in Cadiz,” said Self. He said he spends on average $20 on gas every weekend just going to Clarksville, and sometimes more when he decides to go to Nashville. Self said he just enjoys going out with his friends and having fun at the mall, the movies and Starbucks. To Self, all the gas money is well worth it.
