Diane Hogan Webber, a preschool teacher and bus driver for Trigg County Schools, died in a house fire in her Bumpus Mills, Tenn. home with her husband, Craig Webber, the morning of July 3.

John Vinson, the sheriff for Stewart County, Tenn., said that a forest service officer called the sheriff’s office at about 1 a.m. after seeing light in the sky from the blazes coming from the house, which was located on Red Hill Road in Bumpus Mills. He said that by the time anyone arrived at the scene, the house had been totally destroyed. The victims’ bodies were found in the ruins shortly after arrival. Although the state medical examiner has not yet confirmed their identies, Vinson said he had no reason to think it hadn’t been Diane and Craig Webber

Vinson said that the fire appeared to be accidental, but that state fire marshals had not yet informed his office of the fire’s origins as of Tuesday morning.

According to Weber’s obituary, she was born in Hammond, Ind. and was the daughter of Dolores Shembar Dwelis of Cadiz and the late Melvin Dwelis. She was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Hogan. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Megan Hogan and Scott Russell of Muskegon, Mich.; four grandchildren; a sister, Denise Morehouse of Ill.; and three nieces and nephews.

Mark Harris, the director of transportation for Trigg County Schools, said that Webber had been driving for the district since 1993 and used to drive a regular route to Wallonia. He also said she was an assistant pre-school teacher. Harris said he was saddened by Webber’s death and that he spoke to her in his office two days before the fire.

“We got the word here Thursday after her mother called the central office,” Harris said. “Everyone is devasted. I’m especially concerned for her daughter and her mother.”
