Visitors to Downtown Cadiz may have spotted several portable structures across the city sidewalks. Renaissance on Main Director Cindy Sholar said that the kiosks are for rent for street vendors. Of the four structures, presently one has been rented.

Presently, three kiosks rest along Marion Street. A fourth, the one Sholar identified as rented, sits on the Main Street sidewalk beside the Renaissance Square.

“This year, we are asking for $50 to rent a kiosk, which includes a business license,” said Sholar. “The rent is for the rest of the year, until December, except for the Ham Festival. We’ll have to take them up because there will be no room for them then.” She added that the City charges no additional fees to vendors, and wanted to keep the rate low to entice renters and gauge interest.

Sholar said that she got the idea for the kiosks during a visit to Gatlinburg, Tenn. “I saw them selling jewelry, purses and all kinds of stuff. So far, lots of people have called in with interest. One lady in the Artisan’s Guild asked about renting one as well.”

According to Sholar, the kiosk program hopes to avoid yard sale items while focusing on crafts. During the hot July weather, she added, “I want to see a snow cone and slushy stand.”
