Okay, if you had to describe the weather of late in one word, what would that word be? Go ahead and say it out loud. Yes, for once the whole community is 100% in agreement, it’s hot! I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, or where you’re going, it’s hot! I actually saw a bird using a potholder to pull a worm out of the ground. At dinner time, just go out in the garden and dig up some potatoes, rinse and add butter. It’s that hot. Roll up your car windows and pre-heat for 20 minutes and you can put a pot roast on the floorboard. I thought we were having a minor earthquake, but it was just the electric meter spinning wildly on the side of the house. I think that’s enough about the weather, let’s move on.

Man, is it hot or what? And with the humidity hovering around 100% one gets the full effect. Our water faucets now are “hot” and “hotter”. I hear tell of a farmer that was feeding his chickens shaved ice so they wouldn’t lay hard boiled eggs. My Birch trees are whistling for the dogs! I’m serious. All right, I am sure that’s enough about the heat, what else has been happening?

I have done several “shoots” since we last chatted. You get there, bring out you camera and lenses and presto, wait 10 minutes for the heat fog to clear on your equipment. Even camera gear doesn’t want to come out of the case. And you’re “models” shine nicely just before they faint. It’s hot.

That is entirely enough about it being hot. Let’s talk about the Trigg County Wildcat Football team. Its mere weeks until the season opening kick-off August 30th against Hoptown. This past week the coaches and players were at camp in Dawson Springs. I caught up with senior quarterback Donald Bush when they arrived back in Cadiz Sunday afternoon. He reported the weather as hot, but hot or not the team practiced 3 times daily, starting with a 5:00 AM run ending with the late session wearing pads around 9:00 PM. The team worked on fine-tuning assignments, plays and of course conditioning along with some special team exercises. Bush, a very level headed, calm leader stated the team “looked pretty good”. That’s high praise coming from the tight lipped QB. Even with the heat and humidity, the goal driven Bush declared it “a good week”. In this sit-up eschewing photographer mind, the best conditioned team will usually win, so Trigg is looking pretty tough.
