Lt. Col. (Ret) Garland Drewry Bridges, Jr. 84, of Odessa, Texas, died

Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village, Odessa.

A native of Trigg County, he was born July 22, 1924, the son of the late Garland D., Sr. and Annie Lurline Thomas Bridges.

He was a graduate of Trigg County High School with the class of 1942 and of Texas Tech. in Lubbock, Texas. He was a Baptist and a dedicated member of the Thomas Bridges Association since its organization, having missed only three Reunions.

He retired from the U. S. Army Air Corps and Air Force in 1975, where he served in WWII, and the Korean and Vietman conflicts.

Funeral services were conducted at Crossroads Fellowship Church in Odessa with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Arrangements were by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors, Odessa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Troy H. Bridges and Thomas Edison Bridges, and one sister, Shirley B. Futrell.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnye Bridges, Odessa, two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Judy Bridges, Odessa, Alan and Tammy Bridges, Schertz, Texas, four grandchildren, Drew Bridges, Alpine, Texas, Ale Bridges, with the U. S. State Dept., home based in Mexico City, Tanner and Tyler Bridges, Schertz, Texas, and two great grandchildren, two sisters, Anna Foose of Peoria, AZ and Willa Worley, Phoenix, AZ, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
