Celebrating a ten-year anniversary means bringing out the best for the occasion, and the Janice Mason Art Museum plans to do just that with its new exhibit, “A Decade of Excellence” to showcase the best artist and their works from the first decade of the JMAM’s existence.

Museum Director Paula Lisowsky said that the exhibit will be displayed from September 20 until October 19, with an opening on 6:30 p.m. on the 20th. In total, 25 artists from the museum’s first ten years will grace the gallery.

“I don’t know how many pieces will be featured, exactly,” said Lisowsky. “We asked the artists to loan us one or two of their pieces, but several brought more. We’re going to chose enough to have a nice show.”

To be exhibited, Lisowsky said that the artist must have previously been featured in a Janice Mason show featuring one, two or three artists.

“It’s hard to say what my favorite has been, but Stephen Powell was sure way up there. His work was a visual favorite,” said Lisowsky. “Steve Shields and (Dick and Pat) Wier were popular as well.” She added that no works by the Wiers would appear in the upcoming show.
