Please do not be alarmed by the sight of figures dressed archaically in the East End Cemetery on September 26 and 27, even if they resemble well-known citizens long passed. They apparently spectral figures are actors depicting some of Cadiz’ famous and infamous residents from the past as part of the Southern Kentucky Independent Theatre’s (SKIT) Second-Annual “Dining with the Dearly Departed.”

Director Portia Ezell released the full list of characters- based on real life Trigg Countians and the lives they lead, and the actors that will portray them. The program opens with Relissa Torian as Ella Hendrix George. Alan Reed follows as Henry Burnett. Dr. John L. Trice will be played by Wayne Goolsby. Janice Mason Art Museum Director Paula Lisowsky will play Edith Bingham Lawrence. Bryan Blaylock will play Claude Riggin. SKIT veteran Thomas Broadbent has been announced to play Romane Bilbrey, and the show ends with Pam Goolsby depicting Julia Cunningham.

“Dining with the Dearly Departed” brings the audience to the graveside of the character, who delivers a monologue about his or her life. Offering music and food, the audience experiences the character’s life researched from history by scriptwriters Ezell, Paul Fourshee and Willard Hendricks.

SKIT member Martha Davis said, “Anyone who loves history or anything historical will love this. You might not consider something like this history, but it’s about real life people who made Cadiz what it is today.”
