“It’s fun to see the different exhibits,” said JMAM Board Member Jinna Bower of the 25 artists exhibited at the show. “I remember some of them, but some of the artists displayed before I got here. I love seeing Stephen Powell and am excited to see one of the paintings from Bhutan again. I love seeing Diane Eubanks’ photos. Some look like paintings. It’s a nice variety of work.”
Artist Karen Mize Harper said, “It’s amazing. I never dreamed that Cadiz would have a museum. The community has come a long way, and the museum has come a long way. The museum brings people together like no other place in Cadiz.”
Museum Volunteer Toni Wolfe singled out Mize Harper’s portrait as one of her favorites in the exhibit. She added that Willie Rascoe’s wood sculptures, incorporating found items into his art also stood dear in her heart. “The creative minds in the display astound me.”
Janice Mason Board President Jan Culwell said that Museum Director Paula Lisowsky worked hard to invite the exhibitors back using records maintained by Paul Fourshee. “Many artists agreed to send in some of their work or bring them to us themselves. We’re fortunate that some of them are able to join us tonight. Some couldn’t come, but we are glad for the ones that are here and for the works they have returned to us.”
Eubanks said that she originally displayed her photography in April this year. “This is a nice exhibit. I appreciate the way that the people have responded to art in Cadiz.” Since her last exhibit, she said that she has traveled to Southeast Asia, visiting Hong Kong, Bali and Singapore. Her body of work won several awards at the Tennessee State Fare where she was named Photographer of the Year based on the overall number of accolades her work garnered.
