Rev. Monty Flanigan officiated at the services. Burial followed in the Caldwell Blue Spring Cemetery in Caldwell County.
Mr. Simpson died on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at 10 a.m., at his residence of natural causes.
Mr. Simpson was born on January 4, 1914, in Trigg County. He was the son of the late James, Sr., and Nora Susan Gibbs Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was retired from Standard Oil Company with 45 years of service; was a member of Liberty Point Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon; and was a 50-year member of the Cadiz Masonic Lodge #121.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Boren Simpson; two sisters, Velma Neely and Ethelene Pruitt; and six brothers, Melvin Simpson, Herbert Simpson, James Simpson, Jr., Garnett Simpson, Hershell Simpson, and Clifton Simpson.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Glyn and Patsy Simpson of Clarksville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Mike and Sherry Simpson and Debbie and Bill Scott, all of Clarksville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Brian Scott and Thomas Scott; a brother, Barney Simpson of Seccler, Ill.; and a sister, Nell Rawlings of Evansville, Ind.
Kevin Robinson, vocalist, provided the music.
Serving as pallbearers were Larry Cherry, Bill Scott, Mike Simpson, Brian Scott, Thomas Scott, Bob Lester, and Norman Cotton.
