As I open my Cadiz Record each week, I am reminded of the things that are not there. What ever happened to the Homemakers Column, Ronella's Gardening Column, Coach Mike Wright's Column, and the articles featuring wonderful Trigg County cooks? Many years ago I enjoyed County Agent Keith Venable's interesting column. It would be good to see something like that again.
It seems you have sought to improve the Cadiz Record by adding more articles by people from who knows where and more comics and puzzles. I am thankful that you have kept a few local writers. Their columns are about the only interesting things left.
This week, in a prominent position in the paper, and covering half a page, was an article by Mr. Paul Ibrahim. Since the name of President Elect Obama was in the title, I decided to read it. You should be ashamed to print such a thing.
Among other things, he accuses our president elect of cheapening and trashing The American Dream. It seems that Mr. Ibrahim believes we should have gotten someone as president who was successful and experienced (maybe someone like George W. Bush??). His idea of success and mine certainly differ. I believe there is no one more successful than a person like President Elect Obama, who has used his education and knowledge to benefit his city, state, and nation. What we need in a president is something we have not had for the past eight years, the ability to lead, inspire and unify our country.
Surely you could find a better column than Mr. Ibrahim's. It is ridiculous. If you keep "improving" the paper, I will not bother to renew my subscription.
