CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Samantha Butts, a shortstop at Calloway County High School, is set to enter her first season with the Austin Peay State University softball program. She is a Cadiz native.

The Calloway County High School standout ended her prep career in strong fashion in spring 2008, claiming numerous awards.

Butts was an all-region performer in 2007 and All-State honorable mention. A two-year captain, she also was chosen Academic All-State in 2007. Butts served as Calloway County’s leadoff hitter as a sophomore and junior, batting .341 in 2007 with a .395 on-base percentage while leading the team in stolen bases. She is hitting .300 so far in this rain-plagued 2008 season.

“Sam is a very good athlete,” APSU Coach Jim Perrin said. “She is a high school shortstop but she can play short, second third or possibly even the outfield. She certainly is going to provide depth at those positions and challenge for playing time early on.
