Something is in the air, literally. It is leaves and they are everywhere as they depart from our area trees. The weather is beginning to turn cold and the hawk has even been seen a couple of times. For those who are in the dark, the HAWK is a cold winter wind. This all leads up to one thing. Basketball season is drawing nigh.

As a matter of fact, the University of Kentucky basketball team is coming to scrimmage our Trigg County Wildcats on Tuesday, November 25th right here in Wildcat Gym. You are probably thinking, UK is coming to play Trigg County? Well, yes or sort of anyway. You see, Madisonville is coming to town to scrimmage Trigg on Tuesday. The scrimmage starts at 5:00 and will last for a couple of hours or more. It just happens to be that Madisonville has a player by the name of Jon Hood. Hood is a 6’ 7” senior who has already signed with Kentucky. Therefore, since Hood will be playing with Kentucky next year, all fans coming to the scrimmage will get a good look at the future of UK basketball.

Hood had over 28 scholarship offers from major colleges according to his high school coach Marty Cline. Cline said, “Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida and Duke all courted Hood really hard.” Cline had the following to say about Hood, “Jon is a very talented player. At 6’7” he can play whatever position he wants. He can play anyway from the point to the post. He is a throw back in the sense that he is a gym rat who is the first to practice and the last to leave. One of the greatest things about him is his unselfishness. He is not interested in individual accolades. He remarked to a reporter the other day that he would give up any chance at Mr. Basketball in place of a state championship for his team. This makes him easy to coach.”
