Funeral services for Forest Leroy Oakley, 71, of Corinth, Texas, formerly of Trigg County, were conducted on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of J.H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray. Burial followed in the Long Creek Cemetery in LBL, with Military Rites.

Mr. Oakley died on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Oakley was born on January 26, 1937, in Golden Pond. He was the son of the late Thomas Kelly and Dovie Othlea Bums Oakley.

Mr. Oakley served as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years; received his Bachelor of Science Degree; retired as an auto mechanic teacher in Marshall County High School in Benton; and was a member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Luta Paye Strickland; a brother, Danny Lyle Oakley; a niece, Lorie Ann Edmonds; two step brothers, Edgar Smith and Eugene Smith;; and two brothers-in-law, Roger Sutton and Richard Samson.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann “Annie” Woods Oakley of Corinth; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jonathan Miller of Benton; son, Keith Leroy Oakley of Paducah; step son, Ken Gruhlke of Lewisville, Texas; three granddaughters, Chelsea Oakley of Arab, Ala., Kyleigh Gruhlke of Moundville, Ala., and Delaney Miller of Benton; a brother, Earl Thomas Oakley of Cadiz; seven sisters, Glenda Sue Northing of Florida, Rebecca Dale Taylor of Paducah, Wanda Jane Stonam of Benton, Julia Ann Edmonds of Canton; Martha Laverne Samson of Hickman, and Karen Christine Hopkins and Wilma Dean Coy, both of Murray; sister-in-law, Martha Sutton of Hickory Creek, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
