Lake County uses long-range shooting to get past Trigg

MARION, Ill. – Trigg County fell behind early on Saturday night and never fully recovered in a Farmers State Bank Marion Holiday Tournament game versus highly-touted Lake County, Tenn., a team with numerous college basketball prospects on its roster. Lake County broke the century mark, defeating Trigg County 103-78 at Cuss Wilson Gymnasium.

In an impressive effort, Lake County remained consistent on the offensive end from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

The Falcons, which improved to 11-0, drained 10 three-point field goals.

Russell Avery paced Lake County with a game-high 23 points. Carlos Young was the second-leading scorer for Lake County, finishing with 20 points. Patrick Robertson was another leading contributor for Lake County, scoring 18 points. Rafael Tyler tossed ion 16 points for the winning team.

Six different Lake County players were able to knock down at least one three-point field goal in the tournament triumph.

Trigg County was forced to play from behind early on in the tournament matchup. Lake County rolled early on, outscoring the Wildcats 31-9 in the opening quarter. The Wildcats made up some ground in the second quarter, but could never fully recover from Lake County’s red-hot opening quarter performance. In the second quarter, Trigg County held a 27-14 scoring advantage over its opponent from Tennessee.

Jonathan King led Trigg County with 19 points. Dustin White dumped in 18 points and Bradley Davis added 15 for the Wildcats. Shelton Burruss also reached double figures for Trigg County, tossing in 12 points for the Wildcats.

Trigg County fell to 9-3 with the loss.
