Austin Peay Junior Nicole Jamen posted her season’s second double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds – both game bests. She was joined by senior April Thomas who recorded her season’s fourth double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The duo’s efforts were part of an overwhelming night in the paint as the Lady Govs posted a 34-16 scoring edge in the paint against the Eagles. Austin Peay attempted a season-low seven three-point field goals in the contest while Morehead State fired 31 three-point attempts.
Austin Peay (6-8, 2-1 OVC) took control of the game on both sides of the halftime break. Trailing by eight points, 20-12, with 6:39 remaining, the Lady Govs used an 18-7 half-ending run to take a 30-27 lead into halftime. On the other side of the break, APSU bolted out of the gate with a 22-7 run over the first 8:27 to build an 18-point advantage, 52-34, with 11:33 left and would not be threatened the game’s remainder.
Morehead State (8-7, 2-1) grabbed its eight-point first-half lead courtesy a 14-2 scoring burst over four minutes with contributions from five different players. However, Austin Peay recovered by feeding its posts, scoring 10 of its 18 half-ending points in the paint and making all four of its free throws in that same span.
Besides Jamen and Thomas’ efforts, freshman Whitney Hanley finished with 10 points, five rebounds and five steals.
