Lady Cats finish second in tournament

CADIZ – The Trigg County Lady Cats finished second in the 5th District Junior Varsity Girls’ Basketball Tournament held Saturday. Trigg County defeated Crittenden County in its first game. The Lady Cats fell to Livingston Central in their second game, finishing second in the tournament. A breakdown of the Trigg County junior varsity unit’s two games in the district tournament follows.

Trigg County 39, Crittenden County 34: Trigg County outscored Crittenden County 15-10 in the final period to post the opening round district tournament win.

Crittenden County outscored Trigg County 12-8 in the first quarter. The Lady Cats, however, settled down nicely after the initial period.

Ashley Matlock led Trigg County with 12 points. Alyssa Maxey scored nine points and Abigail Torian added eight for the JV Lady Cats. Elysia Brown scored six points and Morgan Parker pushed in four as Trigg County prevailed.

"We trailed after the first quarter and never trailed again,” confided Trigg County JV Coach Matt Wilder. “Di'Asia Huyghue played outstanding defense in the game. This was a huge win for the girls and a great follow up to our varsity win Friday night."
