Despite some remaining problems from the recent adverse conditions, more than 150 people signed up for the Cadiz version of the Biggest Loser and weighed in at Trigg County Hospital’s conference room from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2. The weigh-in was meant to coincide with National Heart Month, and there will be a final weigh-in at the same place on Monday, April 27.

Trigg County Hospital, the Cadiz-Trigg County Chamber of Commerce, WKDZ and Cadiz area businesses partnered to make the program possible, said Jody Brewer, who works at the hospital.

TCH Wellness Coordinator Vanessa Futrell, with Peel and Holland Financial Group of Benton, will conduct confidential weigh-ins and is in charge of assigning people to groups of five people each, based on their employment, community organization or church, Audra Hodges, director of marketing and human resources for the hospital, said.

“We’re trying our best to keep them on those teams, but the situation is, in order to make it fair, all the way around for the entire community, what we’re doing is we’re trying to equal out the weight each team,” Brewer said.

Several teams, including ones for Relay for Life, Cadiz Baptist Church, Hancock Grocery and even the hospital, are being assigned, according to Brewer, who said that anyone can form a team. “We’ve got a ton of teams,” she added.

Lori Conger, dietician for the hospital and Princeton resident, was at the first weigh-in and will be at the last one. Her and Futrell will be the only ones to know how much the participants weight and will be impartial, said Hodges.
