Lady Cats fall to UHA

HOPKINSVILLE – Host University Heights Academy gradually pulled away from the Trigg County Lady Cats Thursday night in a regular-season girls’ high school basketball matchup at Blazer Gym. UHA held Trigg County to single digits in both the second and third quarters en route to a 57-41 win in the first game of a boys/girls doubleheader.

Trigg County dropped to 5-12 following the loss.

UHA, which improved to 7-13, prevailed without hitting a three-point field goal.

Sara Allen led UHA with a game-high 20 points. UHA led by as many as 20 points before settling for the 16-point win. Seven different UHA players broke into the scoring column.

The two teams battled back and forth early on as the first quarter ended in a 12-12 deadlock. University Heights outscored Trigg County 13-6 in the second quarter on its way to a hard-fought 25-18 halftime lead. The Lady Blazers put the game out of Trigg County’s reach in the third quarter, doubling up the Lady Cats 18-9.

Hadley Burns added 15 points for UHA in the non-district win.

Audrey Futrell hit four three-pointers and led Trigg County with a team-high 12 points. Ashley Matlock added 11 points for the Lady Cats. Janada Acree scored eight points and Brooke Kearney contributed six for Trigg County, which featured six different scorers. Elysia Brown and Dori Sheehan rounded out the Trigg County scoring with two points apiece.
