Trigg County High School’s baseball team, along with nine faculty sponsors and eight chaperones, will be traveling to Destin, Fla., to participate in the Beach Bash Tournament. They will leave on Saturday, April 4, and will come back on Saturday, April 11.

All 24 members of the baseball team will be going, as will two coaches and eight chaperones, who have to be parents and employees of the Trigg County School System, said Teresa Russell, an TCHS English teacher as well as a Trigg County Diamond Club Officer.

“Going to Florida is an opportunity for our students to go to a different part of the country and play with other students who enjoy the sport as much as they do,” Russell said. “It’s an opportunity for them to … form friendships as a team.”

Russell and Jackie Scholar, the TCHS baseball coach, went with the required forms before the Trigg County School Board, which unanimously approved the trip when it met on the night of Thursday, Feb. 26.

Scholar said that while they are going to Florida, it won’t be a vacation for the players, as they will be playing baseball almost the entire trip. Russell the trip as a whole will be a great team building exercise for the team, as they will be playing nine games total, with five games as a varsity team and four games as a JB team.

“They are going to rely upon each other, because it’s just them and their coaches, and of course some parents will be involved,” Russell said. “We are here to play baseball, and the boys are very well aware of that.”
