Categories in the poetry contest: Primary (K-2nd Grade), Intermediate (3rd – 5th Grade), Middle School (6th – 8th Grade), High School (9th-12th Grade), Adult. A first place winner will be selected from each of the five categories and receive a cash prize of $25.00. Rules for admission are as follows: 1) One entry per person 2) Poems must be submitted to the Janice Mason Art Museum on 8 1?2 x 11 sheet(s) of paper or online to jmam@bellsouth.net 3) Each poem submitted must be accompanied by the “Poetry Entry Form” available at JMAM, Eldora’s Books, Etc., or online at www.jmam.org 4) Do not write your name on the poem 5) Put the title of the poem at the top of the first page and on any subsequent pages 6) Poems are not to have embellishments such as pictures, graphics, photos, etc. 7) Poems should not have obscene or profane language
8) Poems will not be returned 9) Winners agree to allow Janice Mason Art Museum to publish their poetry 10) Deadline for submissions is Thursday, April 30.
Janice Mason Art Museum and Eldora’s Books, Etc. will partner to present “Poem in Your Pocket” Day, which is a nationwide event on April 30, is promoted by the Academy of American Poets.
The idea is simple: select a favorite poem (original or by another author), carry it with you on April 30th to share with family members, friends, and co-workers. Residents in Trigg County who want to participate can bring your poem to share with other poetry lovers on April 30th to Eldora’s Books, Etc., 10 Marion Street from 4:00-5:00 pm.
