Skylar Shepard was riding southbound on Westend but didn’t stop at the intersection of LaFayette Street and crossed into incoming traffic, at which point he was struck by a pickup truck being driven by Wilford Kennedy, a Cadiz resident that was traveling eastbound, said Wiggins.
The child’s head hit the truck’s windshield, and then he landed in the bed of the pickup, Wiggins said. The boy was sent to Trigg County Hospital before being Life Flighted to Vanderbilt University Children’s Hospital in Nashville, according to emergency officials.
It has been reported that mother, Rachel Shepard, said her son Skylar had a broken hip and a broken thumb but didn’t need surgery. Skylar was released on Wednesday, April 8, according to officials at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
Wiggins was assisted at the scene of the accident by the Trigg County Ambulance Service and the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department.
