Cancer changes many things in a woman’s life. It affects her body, her spirit and her appearance. She looks in the mirror and doesn’t see the woman she once was. But it doesn’t have to be that way. A program called Look Good...Feel Better helps women cope with worries about hair loss and changes in skin complexion and teaches them beauty tips to enhance appearance and self-image during cancer treatment.

The next Look Good ... Feel Better session will be held in Cadiz on Monday, May 4th, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Cadiz Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Registration is currently underway. There is no cost to attend. To register for this program, please call 1-800-ACS-2345. In order to provide complimentary cosmetics, advance reservations are required.

Patients who have participated in Look Good...Feel Better® call the program an emotional lifesaver, because it returns them to a sense of normalcy and allows them to smile once again at the person in the mirror. According to the American Cancer Society,p ossible appearance-related effects of chemotherapy and radiation include: hair loss on the scalp, eyebrows or lashes; weight gain or loss; changes in skin pigmentation and texture; skin oiliness, itchiness or peeling; and alterations in nail texture and growth rate.

Look Good...Feel Better® is a non-medical program offered free of charge by the American Cancer Society, the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association Foundation and the National Cosmetology Association.
