Barry Hall, a Smithland resident, is the owner of Grizzly, the stud dog that sired the winning pup that is owned by Steven Hargis and Jeff Davis, both of Cadiz. Hall said the same pup scored on six coons Friday night, and added that the pup went into Saturday night’s competition with 925 points.
Out of 70 or more pups and the pup runoff, the Cadiz pup was the top dog, Hall said. It was the first time the 2009 Treeing Walker Day competition was held in Trigg County.
Elba Neat of Elkhorn, who is the vice president of the Treeing Walker Breeders Association, said the three-day event had a large impact on the economy of Trigg County.
Coon dog owners from across the southern and eastern portions of the county, who numbered in the hundreds, gathered at the Trigg County Recreation Complex until Sunday, which Neat said was boon to the local economy.
