Paul Gibbs, 60, was driving westbound on KY 276, also known as Hurricane Road, when he fell asleep and ran off the right shoulder, and the vehicle kept going for several hundred feet and stuck two ditch lines before stopping, Patterson said.
One of the passengers, Delbert Marcum, 35, was able to get out of the vehicle to flag down a passing driver for help, but Gibbs and another passenger, Virgil Marcum, 38, were trapped and had to be extricated by the Trigg County Rescue Squad, wrote Patterson.
Trigg County Emergency Medical Service took all three people to Trigg County Hospital, then Delbert Marcum was Life Flighted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, according to Patterson. The other two were taken Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville with reportedly severe injuries, said Trooper Jerry Beasley of the KSP.
The Trigg-Lyon Volunteer Fire Department and the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department helped at the scene, and crash is being investigated by C.G. Anderson, a KSP collision reconstructionist, said Patterson.
