Trigg County’s softball team continues to show flashes of solid play surrounded by bouts of frustration.

The Lady Wildcats picked up their second win of the season Thursday, 6-3 over University Heights. However, losses to Lyon County, Crittenden County and Livingston Central sealed Trigg’s spot as the No. 4 seed in the 5th District Tournament.

EDDYVILLE – Last Tuesday, Trigg scored two runs in the top of the first inning at Lyon County to get off to a good start, but defensive struggles did the Lady ‘Cats in.

Whitney Cain pitched well in another complete game, but Trigg’s defense committed seven errors behind her. Only one of Lyon County’s 10 runs was earned.

The Lady ‘Cats got themselves moving in the right direction Thursday in a comeback win over University Heights.

The Lady Blazers led 3-0 when Trigg came to bat in the fourth, and the Lady ‘Cats exploded for five runs in the frame and added an insurance tally in the fifth. Cain completed another game on the mound and struck out nine UHA batters.

“UHA’s probably got the best team they’ve ever had,” Trigg head coach Jim Perrin said. “They’ve beaten several pretty good ballclub. Maybe we caught them by surprise. Because of our history, some people are going to overlook us like that. We still made a lot of mistakes today, but we’re getting there.”
