Sharmila Rajasekaran, 23, of Huntsville, Ala., was traveling westbound on I-24 when she lost control of her vehicle at about noon, according to Deputy Kenneth Butts of the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department, who also said that Rajasekaran was in the passing lane and probably fell asleep.
The driver of the semi-trailer, Gary G. Hoskins, who wasn’t injured, drives for Seward Motor Freights of Nebraska and was headed to Atlanta, Ga., when the accident happened, said Butts.
Rajasekaran had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Trigg County Rescue Squad and Trigg County Emergency Medical Services, and was then flown to Vanderbilt Hospital, Butts said. According to a Vanderbilt Hospital spokesperson, Rajasekaran was listed in critical condition.
