Services for Douglas Pool, 85, Donna Drive, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, with Rev. Steve McVay and the Rev. Dr. Larry Bush officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Alive Hospice at St. Thomas, Nashville, TN, following a brief illness.

A native of Christian County, he was born December 25, 1923, the son of the late Fred Pool Sr. and Lyda Cato Pool.

He was owner and operator of the Marathon Station at Ninth and Walnut until 1974 when he opened the Chevron Station on Fort Campbell Boulevard, He retired there in 1989 and worked for 13 years as a sales representative for Max Arnold and ‘Sons..

He was a World War II Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Captola Thomas Pool; a daughter, Jane Bouterse, Hinsdale, IL; a brother, Clyde Pool, Charlottesville, VA; a sister, Sarah Klem, Hopkinsville, and a granddaughter who was reared in the Pool’s home, Heather Mauldin, Chicago, IL.

Memorials may be made to the Christian County Humane Society or Christian Heights Methodist Church.
