Verizon Wireless is proposing to build a new cell phone tower at Ky. 274 and Hurricane Creek Road, and although a public hearing will be held on the matter, the Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission gave the proposal tentative support at its meeting, held last Tuesday.

Planning Commission Chairman Bob Brame said they have approve the construction of other cell phone towers in the past.

According to Brame, Verizon will have to put up signs on all four sides of the property where the tower is planned to be built and at the intersection, and will have to advertise a public meeting via the local media, after which the planning commission can vote to approve or can take no action.

“We do not have the right to refuse this, we have the right to take no action,” Brame said. “If we take no action, then they get approval in 90 days by default.”

In other action, the planning commission unanimously gave Cadiz local Kris P’Pool a conditional use permit to have an automotive detailing business at her residence on Cardinal Drive in Cadiz.

The next planning commission meeting, which will also be a public hearing on the cell phone tower, will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at Cadiz City Hall. One or more representatives from Verizon are expected to be present.
