Trigg Citizens Against Alcohol, who met last Thursday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Blue Springs Road, will hold a community worship service on at the Trigg County Recreation Complex building at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, two days before the special election on alcohol on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Dr. Michael Rust, director of the Little River Baptist Association and a member of the TCAA’s ways and means committee, said pastors with the TCAA are planning the event and added that plans are still in the works to get well-known music groups to play at the event.

TCAA Chairman Bob McIntosh said he hopes that 350–400 people show up for the event. Rust, McIntosh and other pastors, including Archie Brock, are asking others to allow their congregations to join in.

McIntosh said he was “very encouraged” by the amount of anti-alcohol signs posted in yards in the area.

In other business, the ways and committee purchased new yard signs and new banners that will be placed around the county. TCAA member Ronnie Sadler said he is still looking for wrecked vehicles to be used as props in advertisements against alcohol.

Sadler also said alcohol is the “third leading cause of death” in the country.

TCAA leaders also encouraged the group to write letters to the editor to express their feelings on the issue.

It was also said that while there can only be five liquor stores in the county due to its size, that number doesn’t count the gas stations that could sell beer.

One member showed the group an anti-alcohol t-shirt she made, and also shared her negative experiences with alcohol. She said she moved to Trigg County because alcohol was prohibited here.

Another member said that the future of Trigg County families and their children are at stake.

The anti-alcohol group will meet again at 7 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 27, at Bloomfield Baptist Church.
