Cadiz Mayor Lyn Bailey announced at the previous Cadiz City Council meeting that Leida Underhill will be the new Cadiz Renaissance on Main Director, replacing Cindy Sholar, who resigned recently.

“I found out just a couple of weeks ago that I had the job,” Underhill said. She said she heard the news that she would be the new director on the radio.

Underhill, who grew up in Nashville, Tenn., moved to Cadiz in 1991, and worked at Cadiz Florist for 11 years before moving to Clarksville, Tenn. She came back to Cadiz to fill Sholar’s shoes.

Underhill, who started Monday, said she couldn’t wait to get to work.

“I’m back to Cadiz, I’m very excited,” she said. “I’m just looking forward to getting involved with the community again.”

When the Renaissance on Main program was originally started, Underhill was on its promotions committee for five years, and worked with both Sholar and the original director, Janene Welker.

“We’ve probably known each other since I’ve been here, since I’ve been in Cadiz,” Underhill said of Sholar.

Underhill said she has also worked with Bailey on several projects. And now that she’s officially started, she says that working on Ham Festival will be her top priority.

Underhill has a husband, Teddy, who she has been married to for 16 years, two daughters, Loralee and Sabrina, three grandsons and a granddaughter on the way.

“I’ve got big shoes to fill here,” Underhill said, referring to Sholar.

Sholar, said in a letter that effective Tuesday, May 26, she resigned her position “to pursue other opportunities.” Sholar said one of the major reasons for her resignation is that she was involved in her work 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Renaissance on Main Street is a program aimed at preserving Cadiz’s Main Street and its businesses, as well as encouraging economic development.
