Local teachers learn new teaching methods from Dataseam

Teachers from Trigg, Crittenden, Hancock, Caldwell, Muhlenberg counties and Dawson Springs and Fairview indepedent school districts spent two days at Lake Barkley State Park learning the latest computer programs recently.

Teachers were able to get hands-on experience creating movies, developing web sites and manipulating photos and video projects that will help make classrooms more exciting for students this fall.

It is all part of a unique program run by Kentucky-based Dataseam, which places new computers together so scientests can use the processing power to do important discovery work. Researchers from the University of Louisville’s James Graham Brown Cancer Center have already discovered several potential cancer drugs using this process.

Area schools have received thousands of computers as part of the program and teachers are making sure that they can take advantage of all the dynamic capabilities of the machines. Teachers arae able to create and share digital media that makes learning more interesting and relevant to today’s students.

“People and companies use all types of new technology to communicate and get work done in our global economy,” said Brian Gupton, Dataseam CEO. “These teachers are creating individual class web sites so they can share student work and communicate better with parents and the community. It is truly exciting to see this in action.”

“My students are going to love creating new projects with the movie and other software we learned, said Kim Lamb, Caldwell County teacher. “We can bring book reports to life on video and share them with parents and other students using easy to create web sites.”

Over 150 teachers from across the state are taking part in these summer workshops. They join nearly 3,500 teachers, administrators and technicians who have participated in training to learn more about how to use technology in their classrooms.
