The Trigg County Middle School football team came away from the first week of the 2009 season with a 1-1 record.

The Midcats opened the season with a 6-0 win last Tuesday at Hopkinsville, a rival in the Southern Pennyrile Athletic Conference.

Quarterback Luke McKenzie connected with receiver Quentin Bird for the only score of the night. Trigg gained 105 yards of offense while holding the Tigers to 69.

Thursday, the Midcats traveled to Caldwell County and lost 32-16. McKenzie and Bird connected for two more scoring plays, one from 57 yards out and another from 20. Skylar Pool ran in for a two-point conversion after the first touchdown, and McKenzie did the same after the second.

Trigg hosts Logan County on Saturday and Todd County on Tuesday, both at 5:30 p.m. Both are conference opponents.
