If alcohol is OK at Disney World, why not Trigg County?

To the editor:

I’m trying to understand the opposition against alcohol. I’ve only caught glimpses of the ads on the radio that, to my understanding, state they are trying to keep their children away from the influence of alcohol. Alcohol is so important to tourism that a quick Google search showed 11 places to buy beer and wine in Disney World. Not outside of Disney World, but in the resort park. Sea World is owned and operated by Anheuser Busch, an yes, you can purchase their alcohol products there too. I would think that most people would agree that both of these resort parks are geared toward family entertainment. Are Mickey Mouse, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and Shamu selling beer? I don’t think so.

Most would also agree that football, basketball, baseball, hockey, NASCAR, bowling, golf and every other professional sport one can think of has some sort of sponsorship or advertising by alcohol. Even the new Boomer Radio station in Cadiz has advertisements by companies that produce alcohol. I’d like to know when government control took over for good parenting. The hard conversations come from parents: sexuality, alcohol, drug abuse, morality. My wife and I talk to our 14 and 4 year old about these tough issues. I hope others are too instead of trying to hide their children and not providing them the tools to deal with these situations once they leave the nest.

I would also hope that after the alcohol vote passes that the Sheriff and Cadiz Chief of Police make Trigg County a zero tolerance driving under the influence of alcohol community. Let everyone know on their way into town: “All law enforcement vehicles are equipped with breathalysers that were paid for by the tax collected by the sale of alcohol.”
