Trigg competes in Hopkins Central Invitational

Trigg County’s cross country team competed Saturday in the Hopkins County Central Invitational.

Romaine Cunningham had the top finish of the day for the Wildcats, taking fourth in 18:55, 41 seconds behind first-place Colton Chapple of Dawson Springs.

Also running for Trigg were Jakelze Martin (14th, 20:19), Garrett Brown (21st, 22:55) and Jake Mitchell (28th, 27:23).

The only Lady ‘Cat runner of the day was Lynease Byers, who finished eighth in 22:11, 35 seconds behind winner Katherine Stodgill of Apollo. Byers was the only runner not from Apollo or Owensboro to finish in the top 12.

In middle school races, Trigg’s boys finished third out of five teams, trailing College View and Owensboro. Leading the Midcats was Debo Mays in fifth (11:41). Also running for Trigg were Brien Dossett (20th, 12:26), Ethan Dossett (23rd, 12:32), Reagan Hyde (25th, 12:36), J.B. Hendricks (34th, 13:44) and Sebastian Skinner (38th, 13:57),

Rimmington Gavlik was Trigg’s only runner in the elementary boys race, and he finished seventh (9:54).

Trigg’s girls were second out of three teams in the middle school race, finishing behind College View.. Leading Trigg was Alex Olin in third (13:22). Other Trigg runners were Jordan Woodall (16th, 14:51), Kayla Bingham (30th, 16:54), Jessica Brashears (31st, 16:55), Breanna Mason (41st, 19:32), Hanna Barnett (42nd, 19:34) and emily Adreaia (43rd, 19:56).

Anna Morgan, the only Trigg runner in the elementary girls race, finished sixth (8:49).

Trigg was scheduled to host a meet Thursday with Dawson Springs, but head coach Mike Wright learned just before the race was to begin that the team can no longer compete at its previous home, Smith D. Broadbent, Jr. Field Airport at Lake Barkley State Resort Park.

Beginning Thursday with the Fenton Dawson Memorial Run, future Trigg home meets will return to their previous starting location at the state park entrance on U.S. 68 near Canton.
